The Bund's first revitalization started in 1986 with a new promenade by the Dutch Architect Paulus Snoeren, the completion was in the mid-1990s.

Scammers and prostitutes work the Bund and Nanjing Rd area. Westerners beware and before going search the Internet that a lot of people have lost money here. It is truly a beautiful place at night but one must be careful.Do not lose your money to scammers.You may find many types of  scammers there like:-

Tea Party Scam :- “Caution: You may be approached by several young student-type locals with very good English who will first be friend you by stricking a conversation or asking you to click some photos for them and then offer to take you to a tea ceremony. Do not go with them. This is part of an elaborate scam to trick westerners into paying extortionate amounts of money”.

Massage Scam:- Some cute girls may approach you and offer massage at a cheaper price or there will be guys asking you to go for massage and free show. Just look and no need to pay. NEVER answer them or go with them. Keep walking briskly and they will give up after 5 meters. Please dont go to any massage center along with any unknown people you meet on the street.
